While I was working in the Khavari Lab at Stanford over the summer, I tried to make the lab more efficient. One thing I observed often in the lab was that many people needed to dilute their solutions, and when they did, they would always need to find some scrap paper or a calculator to use the dilution equation. This happened many times a day, and time was being wasted as students searched for a calculator, so I decided to create a solution. I figured the best way to solve this problem would be an iPhone app, as everyone always has their phone on them in the lab. I taught myself how to make iPhone apps in a week, then spent the next two weeks making Lab Partner. Lab Partner serves as a very efficient dilution calculator, and calculating dilution with the app is much faster than with paper, or even a normal calculator. Furthermore, Lab Partner can save and remember presets, so if you find yourself repeating a similar dilution many times, you can save even more time by creating a preset. Along with the dilution calculator, Lab Partner has a lab timer, so that you can time certain parts of your experiment.
